1. What is the Noosa Festival of Surfing?
Now in its 26th year, the Noosa Festival of Surfing has firmly established itself as the leading surf cultural event in the world. It is also the biggest surfing event in the world by competitor numbers (more than 800 entries from 20 countries/regions in 2016).
Loved by locals, celebrated by international visitors, it is a celebration of surfing, in and out of the water – the festival is all about camaraderie, and the fun of finding kindred spirits in surf cultures from all over the world. Being part of the Laguna Real Estate Noosa Festival of Surfing offers a unique experience, to be a part of something special and to meet guests, celebrities and the festival team, as well as becoming an integral part of our 8 Days of Pure Stoke.
Past volunteers have gone on to pursue careers in events management, media and marketing and become recurring and ongoing staff members on the festival team, using their experience with the Laguna Real Estate Noosa Festival of Surfing as a stepping stone to greater things. 2. What Requirements Are There to be a Volunteer?
- Be the age of 18 years or older
- Be able to volunteer for a minimum of 3 shifts throughout the week
- Complete the volunteer application form
- Must abide by the rules and regulations set out by the Noosa Festival of Surfing
3. Do I Get Paid For Helping at the Festival?
Unfortunately, all volunteers in any position do not receive any monetary compensation.
4. Do I Attend an Event Briefing?
A mandatory event briefing will be held prior to the event (date to be confirmed). All volunteers are required to attend this briefing to receive essential information regarding your roles as well as workplace health and safety induction.
5. What do I Wear During the Event?
As one of our volunteers, you will receive an official Festival t-shirt. We ask that you wear this with comfortable shorts or pants that are either black or denim. For your own safety, comfortable footwear should be worn (though thongs are permitted), however during bump in and bump out, closed in shoes must be worn at all times; lifting and moving equipment during the festival is also included. If you are working on the beach, remember to wear a hat and feel free to bring your swimwear for a quick cool off, and remember to slip slop slap!
6. Do I Get Lunch Supplied and What do I Need to Bring?
There will be an eski available where you can store your own cold drinks and/or lunch. Food and drinks are available for purchase on Hastings street. Sunscreen and water will be available at the volunteer area during the festival.
7. What Roles Are There For Volunteers?
- Competitor registration
- Information booth attendant
- Assistant to the site manager
- Bag packing
- SUP Race Assistant
8. Do Volunteers Receive a Festival Handbook?
Volunteers will have access to a festival handbook that will include job descriptions, runsheets, entertainment lists, festival guidelines, heat draws, maps of festival site, important contact details for festival staff and what to do in case of an emergency.
9. Do Volunteers Have Access to First Aid?
Volunteers have access to a First Aid kit that will be kept at the Information booth. An incident report kept in the First Aid Kit must be completed for all injuries, no matter how minor. This will also assist me in replenishing equipment. There will also be several staff members on-site who have their First Aid Certificate if you require further assistances.
